[trigger warning for sexual assault] The US feminist blogosphere is awash with discussion of Daniel Tosh’s rape joke. For my (Tallulah’s) part, saying someone should “get raped by 5 guys right now” isn’t not funny because it’s a joke about rape, it’s not funny because it’s not a fucking joke.

Managed to avoid the comments on all the fat-positive article that have been around this week? Aren’t you the lucky one?

When it comes down to it this whole thing is about how the way we talk about people contributes to controlling who does and doesn’t get to count as a full human being who is worthy of respect and dignity. That can’t be separated from the way sciencey speak medicalises non-normative bodies in order to constitute them as less fully human than those it’s declared are “fit” or “healthy”
